So the foldover tower goes in the foreground and the solar panels go right here, 20 feet north. North? Why, I asked? Well, vandalism. They want a clear view of those batteries and solar panels.

Time for math. We're at about 6 degrees North Latitude. Add that to the 23 degree axial tilt of the Earth, and we have a worst-case shadow angle of 29 degrees in the winter. We have a 30 foot tower, so the noon/north shadow length is 30(tan(29))=16.1ft

Our solar panel will be 20 feet away, so the tower shadow won't be a problem. I still didn't like it, but the math says it's okay. Remember when you were a kid and you said "When am I ever going to need trig"?
